For Kuwait MOH-Licensed Doctors
OET Writing Correction for Kuwait Doctors
Kuwait's healthcare system is staffed largely by international doctors licensed by the Ministry of Health (MOH). For doctors moving to the UK, the GMC requires OET Grade B alongside a recognised primary medical qualification — the Kuwait MOH licence confirms where you practise, not where you qualified. Writing is the sub-test that most often needs targeted preparation.

OET writing challenges for doctors in Kuwait
Doctors in Kuwait write from varied first-language backgrounds, but the common OET writing issue is case-note selection — choosing what the reader needs rather than reproducing the record. Arabic first-language doctors also tend toward an over-formal opening and closing. Both patterns are fixed with sentence-level feedback rather than general English study.

Corrections identify the exact patterns that hold doctors back from Grade B.
"Kuwait-based doctor letters are usually clinically strong. The lost marks sit in Content and Genre and Style — too much history, register pitched wrong for a colleague. Neither requires changing the clinical substance of the letter."
GMC (UK) vs your Kuwait MOH licence
| What it covers | GMC (UK registration) | Your Kuwait MOH licence |
|---|---|---|
| What it lets you do | Practise medicine in the UK | Practise medicine in Kuwait |
| Primary medical qualification | Independently verified by the GMC | Recognised locally, not re-verified for the UK |
| Knowledge & clinical test | PLAB 1 + PLAB 2, or an accepted postgraduate qualification | Met via your local licensing route |
| OET writing standard | Grade B (350) in every sub-test | Lower than the GMC's, or not required |
Always confirm current requirements with the UK regulator and your local authority before applying.
The 6 areas your letter is assessed against
Your letter is marked across six criteria by trained examiners. Our corrections assess every criterion and explain precisely where you are losing marks.
Purpose & Content
Has the right information been selected for the specific reader? This is the criterion where most marks are lost.
Conciseness & Clarity
Is information presented efficiently without unnecessary detail? Brevity and precision are rewarded equally.
Genre & Text Organisation
Does the letter follow the expected professional structure — opening, body, and closing — used in clinical correspondence?
Vocabulary
Is clinical and professional vocabulary used accurately and appropriately for the reader and context?
Grammar
Are grammar structures used correctly and with appropriate complexity for formal professional writing?
Spelling & Punctuation
Are spelling and punctuation accurate throughout? Errors here signal a lack of proofreading to examiners.
Common questions from doctors
Answers specific to your profession and your pathway from Kuwait.
What OET score do Kuwait doctors need for the GMC?
Grade B (350) in each of the four OET sub-tests. Score combining across two sittings within six months is allowed if you achieved at least Grade C+ (300) in kept sub-tests from the earlier sitting.
Does my Kuwait MOH licence count for GMC registration?
No. The Kuwait Ministry of Health licence confirms you are licensed to practise in Kuwait. The GMC needs your primary medical qualification, independently verified, plus PLAB or an accepted postgraduate qualification and OET Grade B. The Kuwait licence does not replace these.
What is the most common OET writing error for doctors in Kuwait?
Over-inclusion of clinical history and an over-formal register. Both are habit, not weak English, and both respond quickly to sentence-level feedback on your own letters.
